About Us
We’re not just a competition team—we’re family. Ricky Branscum and his two sons, Lance and Cori, make up BPOS BBQ. What started as a simple excuse to fire up the pit and spend time together has turned into a decade-long love affair with smoke, spice, and serious bragging rights.
The Spark – August 2017
It all began in the summer of 2017 when Ricky and Cori decided the best way to hang out was over a hot smoker. We entered our first local cookoff “just for fun.” Turns out, fun tastes a lot like top-5 finishes. From that day forward, weekends were booked with brisket, ribs, chicken and the sweet sound of our ticket being called.
The Secret Seasoning – 2022
Ricky, the flavor scientist, got tired of “almost perfect” store-bought rubs. In 2022, he took over the kitchen and started building BPOS Sweet Mesquite Pecan. Countless test batches, blind taste tests, and a few “trust me” moments later, we had blends that didn’t just season meat—they elevated it.
The Crown – American Royal World Series of Barbecue
In 2023, we entered our signature rub in the American Royal World Series of Barbecue seasoning competition—the Super Bowl of spices. Against the best pitmasters on the planet, BPOS took 4th place in the world. Not bad for a family that started cooking to hang out.
Today
We still compete every now and then, we still laugh, and we still argue over who smokes brisket better (spoiler: it’s Cori). But now, every shaker of BPOS seasoning on your shelf carries the same fire, family, and flavor that got us here.
